Cinta Networks, a provider of optical networking systems, announced the introduction of its WAVEJunction VS3000 Virtual Network Element System (ViNES) and Network Planning Tool (NPT). NPT and ViNES are revolutionary network development tools that allow service providers to accurately test and plan for deployment of Cinta's disruptive new WAVEJunction optical wavelength networking system. The WAVEJunction optical system, previously announced in March, will be shown as part of the OIF UNI interoperability demonstration at SuperComm (booth No. 150D in the Georgia Dome) and is scheduled for delivery in the third quarter.
WAVEJunction re-architects the fundamental transport and switching elements of optical networks, integrating these once disparate elements and enabling massive scalability with per-port deployment of wavelength services. WAVEJunction redefines the economics of intelligent optical networks, delivering substantial savings in capital (CAPEX) and operating (OPEX) expenses for service providers while speeding deployment of new services. Cinta's WAVEJunction VS3000 and NPT allow service providers to interactively configure, plan and test a complete wavelength network using Cinta's WAVEJunction products or integrated equipment from multiple vendors.
The VS3000 is a compact virtual element testing platform that allows service providers to test WAVEJunction systems for large optical networks using production-ready software and node processors, in lieu of having large test beds. ViNES allows service providers to develop back office interfaces to product software in a risk free environment. The tool is capable of executing and emulating up to a 100 node network with full functionality including network provisioning, restoration and configuration. Service providers can readily emulate actual network topologies, traffic patterns and system failures to assess how WAVEJunction would perform in a live network.
The WAVEJunction NPT works in conjunction with Cinta's WaveManager network management system, giving planners a powerful tool to assess the performance of the network, make cost decisions on deploying new systems, and gauge the impact of various routing decisions. Both WAVEJunction NPT and WaveManager use the same GUI, and can operate on network maps downloaded from live WAVEJunction elements, as well as enabling revised maps to be uploaded to the live network.
Additional flexibility has been built into the WAVEJunction NPT that allows network planners to integrate multiple equipment vendors and facilities, assessing the economic impact of these alternative systems.
Cinta's WAVEJunction product family includes all the elements required to build a complete optical wavelength network: transport, switching, add/drop, amplification and network management and planning software. The WAVEJunction LS3000 Lambda Switch anchors the end-to-end network, collapsing the typical multiple OEO translations down to a single conversion, thereby obtaining the optimum balance between optical performance monitoring and bandwidth demands. In addition, WAVEJunction enables service providers to deploy the fully integrated solution at one time, or start with DWDM transport and add wavelength switching a port at a time as required. Both options are supported on the same integrated platform managed by WaveManager. Cinta claims that this solution offers the lowest cost and highest linear scalability in the industry, saving service providers over 50 percent in CAPEX and over 70 percent in OPEX for wavelength transport/switching. A WAVEJunction system is currently in customer trial. Systems with capacity of 1024 ports/10TB are available today.
