Opthos, Inc., a provider of IP-managed, True Optical solutions for metropolitan core networks, introduced the IW1000, a wavelength delivery system featuring Instantaneous Wavelengths.

The Opthos IW1000 combines next-generation optical technology with efficient IP protocols to provide a scalable solution with density and capacity. The system supports up to 32 protected, or 64 unprotected, wavelengths in a single, compact 10U shelf. Offering the lowest life-cycle costs and carrier-class availability, the IW1000 eliminates the bottleneck in the metro core.

Among the new system's breakthrough features, Instantaneous Wavelengths enables the dynamic delivery of wavelengths instantly to any port of any node in fewer than 50 milliseconds. For example, wavelengths can be shared among multiple storage area network (SAN) clients and rearranged to accommodate rapidly changing data requirements.

Opthos will showcase the IW1000 True Optical system on a three node metro core ring interoperating with multiple vendor partners at SuperComm 2001, booth No. 458D, June 5-7, 2001 in Atlanta.
