BT Ignite, BT's broadband and Internet Protocol (IP) data and solutions business, announced the launch of its Transborder Wavelength Services that will run over the core backbone of the BT Ignite European network. Currently, BT Ignite has the existing fibre capacity to run SDH-based services over its network and it will now be capable of supporting 2.5Gbit/s and 10Gbit/s wavelength services to its wholesale customers.
The Wavelength Services are available to BT Ignite customers who require wider broadband reach and want to build and manage their own data networks without managing the optical infrastructure. The geographical reach of the transborder network offers a cost effective, flexible alternative to traditional leased capacity.
Using the dense wave division multiplexing (DWDM) technologies, BT Ignite is able to carry a maximum number of wavelengths over the pan-European network, offering customer point to point optical connections. A wavelength is supported by DWDM technology and is carried over long or short distances via fibre optic cables.
The BT Ignite European network already provides STM-1, STM-4 and STM-16 products which are transported over 50,000km of fibre to over 200 European cities, in UK, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Switzerland, Belgium, Spain, Ireland, Denmark, Norway and Sweden.
