May 14, 2001
May 14, 2001--Metromedia Fiber Network, Inc. has completed installation on the fiber-optic infrastructure it has leased to Multex.com, Inc. The network is completely private and unshared.

Metromedia Fiber Network, Inc. (MFN) (Nasdaq: MFNX), a provider of optical IP Internet infrastructure deployment within key metropolitan areas domestically and internationally, has completed installation on the fiber-optic infrastructure it has leased to Multex.com, Inc.

The network is completely private and unshared. Using MFN's WaveChannel Optical Network service, Multex.com will deliver data and information to end-users, while supporting mission-critical applications, over a fully managed, scalable platform that is cost-effective. Multex.com will use this managed infrastructure to maximize new applications, including video-conferencing, streaming media and interactive remote applications.

WaveChannel enables MFN to bring enterprise customers a private and dedicated "wavelength to the door" solution. It combines all the advantages of a building-to-building, dedicated fiber-optic network with unshared DWDM equipment that is fully integrated and managed by MFN. WaveChannel simplifies enterprise networks and reduces IT costs by eliminating the need for expensive protocol conversion devices and individual leased lines.

WaveChannel Optical Network brings the advantages of DWDM technology directly to end-users. WaveChannel is a fully managed, unshared network solution that allows enterprises to deploy advanced applications such as Storage Area Networks (SANs), data mirroring, disaster recovery, telemedicine and distance learning using native protocols. Multiple wavelength channels of IP, Gigabit Ethernet, ESCON, FICON, Fibre Channel,ED1 Video, SONET and ATM can be carried directly and independently over a single private fiber network. Customers can transport up to 32 fully protected channels at varying speeds, as well as change or add services to their network, independent of bit rate or protocol.
