JDSU Introduces Multi-mode/Single-mode OTDR with Five Wavelength Test Capability

Jan. 7, 2008
December 18, 2007 JDSU today introduced the Short-Range LAN (SRL) OTDR for the T-BERD/MTS-6000 and T-BERD/MTS-8000 that provides a unique testing combination of up to five wavelengths in both multi-mode and single-mode.

Milpitas, Calif., December 18, 2007 JDSU today introduced the Short-Range LAN (SRL) OTDR for the T-BERD/MTS-6000 and T-BERD/MTS-8000 that provides a unique testing combination of up to five wavelengths in both multi-mode and single-mode. The SRL OTDR complements the existing range of OTDR modules within the T-BERD/MTS family and offers a combination of industry-leading dynamic range and dead-zone specifications, which are critical to characterizing fiber networks and providing best-in-class optical performance.

The SRL OTDR is engineered to help military, contractor and enterprise technicians, as well as construction and maintenance teams for cable and telecommunication network operators, save time and reduce errors when testing access and LAN networks. The SRL OTDR offers multiple industry-leading capabilities, including 0.5/2.5m Event/Attenuation dead zones and wavelength combinations (up to four wavelengths in multi-mode/single-mode and five wavelengths when adding out-of-band testing at 1625nm).

"The SRL OTDR, with its five wavelength test capability, sets a new standard," said Enzo di Luigi, general manager of JDSU's fiber optics Communications Test and Measurement group. "With its advanced automation features and field pluggable design, the SRL OTDR helps technicians of various skill sets, from beginner to expert, quickly and efficiently meet their access/LAN network installation and maintenance requirements."

The SRL OTDR provides unique, one-button automated OTDR testing that helps save time and reduce errors in the field. It is optimized for 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10 GigE) networks. In addition, the SRL OTDR can be combined with all required connection check options available for the T-BERD/MTS-6000 and T-BERD/MTS-8000: connector inspection (VIP), end-to-end connectivity and trace faults in patch panel cabling (VFL), patch cord testing (LTS), power measurements (LTS), and Optical Return Loss (ORL).
