Neos Networks selects Sorrento's GigaMux for UK network expansion

DECEMBER 8, 2008 European operator Neos Networks says it has selected Sorrento Networks' GigaMux 3200 WDM platform to support the increasing optical bandwidth needs associated with high-speed data communications and video.

DECEMBER 8, 2008 --Neos Networks, a leading telecom network operator in Europe, has deployed Sorrento Networks' (search for Sorrento Networks) GigaMux WDM products to support the increasing optical bandwidth needs associated with high-speed data communications and video.

Through its implementation of Sorrento's GigaMux 3200 platform, Neos says it can seamlessly add capacity to its existing WDM infrastructure without interrupting traffic signals. This gives Neos the flexibility to build out its optical ring and mesh networks across the UK to respond to customers' needs on demand. Neos is currently using the GigaMux 3200 to support 1-Gigabit Ethernet, 2.5 Gigabit services and 10 Gigabit local-area and wide-area networking capabilities for its broad customer base.

"By cost-effectively increasing our network bandwidth, we can make more next-generation consumer and business services available to our customers faster," explains Adrian Pike, group director of Neos Networks. "Sorrento's GigaMux platform gives us the level of flexibility we need to remain competitive in this fast-growth environment."

Sorrento claims its GigaMux 3200 WDM platform enables Neos to deliver high-speed services with significantly reduced capital outlay and fewer management requirements than other optical networking products. A protocol-independent design allows the GigaMux platform to transport and extend the traffic of SONET/SDH, layer 2/3 Ethernet, and SAN simultaneously and in their native formats.

"As traffic grows and urban networks become more complex, regions like the UK where Neos operates are seeing unprecedented growth of WDM in their metropolitan networks," adds Jim Nevelle, CEO of Sorrento Networks. "Our GigaMux equipment U allows operators like Neos to build highly cost-efficient transport networks that allow them to extend their services to the metro core and metro access faster than their competitors."
