Thailand broadband service provider Interlink Telecom is deploying the 1830 Photonic Service Switch (PSS) from Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) in a major network build out, the systems house says. The fiber-optic network, deployed along railroad and road rights of way, will also connect to Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia, and Malaysia.

Interlink Telecom, a wholly owned subsidiary of Interlink Communications Public Co. Ltd., will embark on Phase I of the project this month. Work will take place in 42 stations covering Thailand’s eastern and southern regions, including Bangkok and Phuket. The 100-Gbps capabilities of the newly installed packet-optical transport platforms will support service to a host of potential customers, including mobile operators, enterprises, ISPs, banksm and governments.

"We want to maintain our reputation for 99.998% network availability and as a result needed to deploy the highest-quality solutions," explained Nuttanai Anuntarumporn, managing director of Interlink Telecom. "Following extensive trials we are very pleased to work with Alcatel-Lucent to meet the growing high-speed connectivity demands of our customers."

The service provider will leverage Alcatel-Lucent’s Wavelength Tracker technology within the 1830 PSS to enjoy an integrated view across its network, making it easier to monitor performance and identify potential problems.
