Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd. and its wholly owned subsidiary SEI Trading India Pvt. Ltd. (SETI) state that they have landed a two-year agreement to supply fusion splicers to TATA Communications Transformation Services Ltd. (TCTS). Sumitomo Electric says that the partnership comes as TCTS expands it fiber network to support 5G mobile deployments and the Indian government’s Smart Cities Mission.
The technology supplier says that it won the business after TCTS evaluated its options in light of its need to fusion splice in harsh environments with high temperatures and humidity levels that can reach 90%. Sumitomo Electric asserts that its direct core monitoring fusion splicers demonstrated their ability to perform in such conditions as well as provide vibration and shock resistance.
Indian distributor INVAS Technologies Pvt. Ltd. has represented Sumitomo Electric in this project. Sumitomo Electric says TCTS has already begun the use of the fusion splicers, with SETI providing maintenance and technical support.
