Nokia, Elisa demo 1-Tbps interface in commercial trial

Nokia says it collaborated with Nordic service provider Elisa on a commercial trial of a 1-Tbps clear-channel interface. The trial was part of a network upgrade exercise.

The trial saw Nokia and Elisa upgrade Nokia 7950 Extensible Routing System (XRS) nodes with a linecard featuring a pair of 1-Tbps interfaces. The linecard featured Nokia’s FP4 chipset. In the trial, the linecard enabled terabit transmission by carrying live traffic on Elisa’s network. The demo partners did not reveal the reach of the terabit transmission or any other demonstration parameters.

Nokia introduced the FP4 chipset for the 7950 XRS and 7750 Service Router in June 2017 (see “Nokia offers new 7750 Service Router, 7950 Extensible Routing System based on multi-terabit FP4 chipset”). In addition to Elisa, the FP4 chipset has found deployment with BT, Equinix, and Proximus, among others (see “BT deploys Nokia 7750 SR-s router platform,” “Equinix to deploy IP/MPLS infrastructure with Nokia FP-4 based routers, Network Services Platform,” and “Proximus deploys Nokia 7750 SR-14s multi-terabit routers as part of TITAN project”).
