Lightpath opens additional fiber route between New York Metro and Ashburn, VA
Business services provider Lightpath says it has opened another fiber route between the New York Metro area and Ashburn, VA. The new 300-mile route is designed to offer geographic diversity from Lightpath’s existing route between the two hubs. It also provides connectivity to the rest of Lightpath’s 19,000-mile fiber network that covers New York City, New Jersey, Long Island, Connecticut, and Massachusetts.
Lightpath will offer its optical transport service via the network, with bandwidth options ranging up to 800 Gbps. It also will offer Ethernet services. On the Ashburn end, customers can directly connect to cloud providers and area data centers.
“Our new Ashburn route is extremely important to many of our customers who need absolutely reliable connectivity between these major technology centers. Offering a geographically diverse route between New York and Ashburn is a perfect complement to the routes we already offer between these regions,” commented Phil Olivero, Lightpath CTO. “We know that companies using connectivity between Ashburn data centers and New York data centers demand the highest levels of connectivity, reliability and performance. Combining this new route with our existing routes, all with our latest network technologies, is as good as it gets.”
LightPath has embarked on a series of network enhancements and extensions, including the most recent announcement for the Boston area (see “Lightpath to further expand Boston metro fiber network”).
