Telstra Wholesale says it now offers 400-Gbps wavelength services on various Australian intercapital routes. The service launch comes after a successful trial with Aussie Broadband earlier this year.
The company currently offers the 400G wavelength services on routes between Adelaide, Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney, and Brisbane. Each route features three geographically diverse paths to improve service resiliency, according to Telstra Wholesale. The routes leverage Ciena’s 6500 Packet-Optical Platform with WaveLogic 5 Extreme programmable 800-Gbps coherent technology. The 400 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) interfaces have the same physical size as a 100GbE interface, which streamlines capacity upgrades, Telstra points out.
The company also expects to offer 400G wavelength services on its Adelaide–Perth and Melbourne–Hobart fiber routes in fiscal year 2024, which concludes in June 2024.
“Data traffic continues to grow on our fixed networks. High-capacity services are vital to help our customers satisfy growing end user demand while also making their networks simpler and more efficient,” said Steve Long, Telstra Wholesale’s executive. “Our 400-Gbps service is part of a toolkit of connectivity solutions for customers that use our diverse fiber network. With our backhaul experience and range of services, we can tailor solutions for customers to meet almost any need.”
