FNE-Finland adds 100G to metro fiber-optic network

FNE-Finland Oy, an alternative backbone capacity provider founded by a group of Finnish telecommunications companies, will upgrade its metro fiber-optic network to support 100-Gbps optical transmission. The project will leverage Transmode's Metro 100G packet-optical transport systems, according to the equipment provider.

The 100G deployment is driven by a single data center customer but will enable FNE-Finland to expand is service offerings and customer range as well, Transmode says.

FNE-Finland is already using Transmode optical transport systems in its network (see "Transmode earns 100G kudos with customer in Finland, field trials in Sweden"), which made use of the company's Metro 100G technology straightforward. The upgrade will take place this quarter.

"The new equipment fits easily into our existing sub-racks, minimizing both the footprint and power usage. But mainly the Transmode solution allows FNE to quickly scale traffic at a low cost and minimizes our ongoing operational costs."
