LightPointe Wireless says it has been selected by MetroWave Communications, Inc. to provide gigabit capacity outdoor wireless bridges for MetroWave's advanced networks in Florida. LightPointe will provide approximately half a million dollars of equipment to MetroWave during the initial phases of the multi-year rollout, which both companies state will make MetroWave capable of delivering the fastest broadband connectivity services in Florida, LightPointe asserts.
MetroWave has already begun to roll out LightPointe's fourth generation AireStrata G point-to-point free-space optics (FSO) bridges. The optical wireless equipment provides fiber-optic speeds without trenching for fiber-optic cables and is lower cost than leased lines, LightPointe says.
MetroWave says its network is unique because it uses a dual path architecture that offers redundancy through the use of both radio frequency and laser transmission technology. "We selected the AireStrata G because it is the only point-to-point wireless bridge in the industry combining four-beam auto-tracking laser technology, high-quality precision German optics, automatic gain control (AGC), and advanced carrier-grade network management features," said Ted Mahoney, CEO of MetroWave. "With four redundant transmission beams simultaneously sending and four large diameter lenses receiving data, we provide our customers with unparalleled signal reliability, redundancy, and gigabit capacity broadband connectivity."
"MetroWave is replacing a competing brand of FSO wireless bridges with our advanced optical transmission links which will provide their customers with gigabit capacity data transmission that is immune to radio frequency congestion and interference issues, and offers what is regarded as the highest level of signal security in the wireless industry," said John Taylor, vice president of sales for LightPointe.
