KDDI Corp. has opted for Infinera’s DTN-X platform to enhance the Miyazaki – Okinawa Cable network in Japan. The deal, in which Infinera local partner Nissho Electronics assisted, will enable a total system capacity in the multi-terabit range.
The Miyazaki – Okinawa Cable is an independent, 10,300-km fiber-optic cable system that links to the Japan Information Highway cable system.
“The DTN-X provides us with an industry-leading 100G transport solution that differentiates us in the marketplace,” said Shigeto Kiritani, general manager and head of the International Network Department at KDDI. “By deploying the DTN-X we can rapidly increase the capacity of our system while enabling a robust network that is scalable and efficient. With Infinera’s Instant Bandwidth feature on the DTN-X, we are able to activate 100G services instantly on an as-needed basis.”
Infinera’s Instant Bandwidth feature is a software-activated approach to enabling 100G bandwidth within the 500-Gbps superchannels the DTN-X transmits (see “Infinera offers Instant Bandwidth on DTN-X packet optical transport platform”).
“Infinera is committed to offering the most innovative optical transport solutions globally,” said Andrew Bond-Webster, vice-president of APAC sales for Infinera. “We are pleased that KDDI has selected the DTN-X on this critical network. The DTN-X provides simple operations, scalable superchannel bandwidth and efficient network utilization. Infinera’s unique Instant Bandwidth is a key feature that helps our customers, like KDDI, win in the marketplace by delivering services faster than their competitors."
