Finisar announces first customer shipment of SAN QoS

June 11, 2001--Finisar Corporation, a technology provider of gigabit fiber optic solutions for high-speed data and telecommunication networks, announced the first customer shipment of SAN QoS.

Finisar Corporation (Nasdaq:FNSR), a technology provider of gigabit fiber optic solutions for high-speed data and telecommunication networks, announced the first customer shipment of SAN QoS. Finisar has leveraged its technology and engineering towards new solutions for 1 and 2 Gb Fibre Channel SANs. After a successful Beta with some SAN switch and equipment providers, SAN QoS is now shipping to customers.

SAN QoS is a distributed packet-level performance monitoring system for Fibre Channel SANs. Deployed in Loop or Fabric topologies, SAN QoS provides reliable and scalable monitoring and measurement of Fibre Channel link and SCSI exchange statistics across the SAN.

SAN QoS' three-tiered architecture is comprised of ProbeFC, Portal, and ViewsFC.

ProbeFC supports full-duplex connections and performs at 100 percent wire-speed, monitoring and delivering accurate, real-time Fibre Channel and SCSI statistics Ito the Portal. Installing ProbeFC at strategic points, even remote locations, SAN managers can collect detailed performance and event statistics for key servers and storage devices. ProbeFC collects over 25 key SAN Link and I/T/LI metrics, including Target and Logical Unit (LUN) level statistics.

Portal gathers, aggregates and records statistics from all available ProbeFCs making the information available to ViewsFC. Portal aggregates data, performs statistical calculation and records link and SCSI exchanges statistics for playback. SAN QoS also includes a Portal API that enables the integration of Portal data with third-party SAN management applications.

ViewsFC is a Java-based client that provides a powerful, consistent and easy to use graphical user interface into the Portal information. ViewsFC displays information to the user in three separate views: Table, Graph and Chart. Thirteen pre-defined event, such as SCSI Check, Extended Link Services and Link Up, are monitored on 1-second intervals. Through the Table, Graph and Chart Views, the SAN manager can easily see summary and/or detailed information on monitored links.

Finisar and Shomiti Systems, recently acquired by Finisar, will both sell and distribute SAN QoS worldwide. The SAN QoS ProbeFC sells for $9,500. SAN QoS Portal sells for $9,500. SAN QoS ViewsFC sells for at $995. A special configuration of SAN QoS with 1 ProbeFC, 1 Portal, and 1 ViewsFC is available for $13,500. Volume discounts and software bundles are available.
