MARCH 25, 2008 -- Infinera (search for Infinera) has extended its Just-in-TAM program to the 40 Gigabit Tributary Adapter Module (TAM), broadening the range of services that Infinera says its customers can now deliver to their customers in 10 days or less.
TAM modules slot into Infinera line cards at the endpoints of a circuit in an Infinera network. Installation of the TAMs, combined with software configuration of the circuit through the network, enables very fast turn-up of circuits and services in an Infinera network, the company says. The Just-in-TAM program, introduced last year, is an Infinera commitment to ship most TAM modules anywhere in the world within 10 days of receipt of customer order.
Infinera's 40 Gb/s TAM, which has been available since last year, uses the company's Digital Virtual Concatenation (DVC) technology to map a 40-Gbit/sec service over four 10-Gbit/sec wavelengths. As a result, 40-Gbit/sec services can be offered over any fiber plant capable of supporting 10-Gbit/sec services today, Infinera asserts.
"Extending the Just-in-Tam program to 40G enables our customers to leverage their existing Digital Optical Network infrastructure, allowing our customers to provide significant product differentiation via increased service velocity of super-wavelength rate services without the need for network overlays or span redesigns. Infinera customers can literally turn up a 40G service within hours of receiving the 40G TAMs," said Jeff Bodin, director of product line management at Infinera.
