DE-CIX Internet exchange taps ADVA Optical Networking 100-Gbps metro platform

ADVA Optical Networking says it will supply its ADVA FSP 3000 in its metro 100-Gbps configuration to DE-CIX, an Internet exchange that ADVA touts as the world's largest. The platforms will connect DE-CIX’s core Frankfurt data centers with multiple 100-Gbps metro channels.

ADVA Optical Networking says it will supply its ADVA FSP 3000 in its metro 100-Gbps configuration to DE-CIX, an Internet exchange that ADVA touts as the world's largest. The platforms will connect DE-CIX’s core Frankfurt data centers with multiple 100-Gbps metro channels.

AXIANS Germany will deploy the new capabilities, which the Internet exchange will require to meet rapidly increasing bandwidth demands. DE-CIX currently sees more than 2 Tbps of Internet traffic at peak hours, a figure it expects will rise rapidly.

"We're seeing a continuous increase in data traffic with a growth rate of about 80% every year, an increase that shows no signs of slowing down," said Arnold Nipper, CTO at DE-CIX. "To meet this enormous surge in data it's critical that we migrate the core of our network. What's more, we need to do so in the most seamless manner possible. We have a record of 100% uptime and this is something we cannot risk. ADVA Optical Networking’s 100G Metro enables us to migrate our current 10G services while at the same time adding 100G capacity in the simplest manner possible. ADVA offers a 4x28-Gbps approach to 100-Gbps in the metro, which the company asserts meets the metro performance requirements (including 500-km reach) at a lower cost than coherent-based 100 Gbps.
