Optelian unveils FLX-1610 multi-service networking card for LightGAIN

Optelian says it has added the FLX-1610 multi-service networking card to its LightGAIN portfolio of optical transport systems. The card is designed to provide high-density, multiprotocol aggregation and flexible deployment options.

Optelian says it has added the FLX-1610 multi-service networking card to its LightGAIN portfolio of optical transport systems. The card is designed to provide high-density, multiprotocol aggregation and flexible deployment options.

The FLX-1610 card features 14 SFP ports that can aggregate any mix of client services, and two XFP line ports to handle both linear and ring topologies, Optelian reveals. The card is designed to support any combination of protected or unprotected Ethernet, SONET/SDH, storage, and video client services (155 Mbps to 4.25 Gbps) up to a cumulative bandwidth of 10 Gbps per XFP port. The line interface is OC-192, with optional G.709 OTU2 encapsulation and tri-FEC for enhanced reach.

Deployment options include 10-Gbps and 20-Gbps point-to-point muxponder modes, as well as a distributed add/drop networking mode where services can be cross-connected between any FLX-1610 within a linear ADM chain or UPSR-protected 10G ring.

“Adding the FLX-1610 makes LigthGAIN a compelling solution in the evolution of optical networks,” said Sheldon Walklin, CTO at Optelian. “The FLX-1610’s service aggregation capabilities significantly improve wavelength utilization efficiency on networks that must accommodate a mix of transport protocols. It is an attractive alternative to legacy MSPPs, with the ability to address multiple applications, such as cell backhaul, multi-service access and aggregation, data center interconnect, and video distribution.”

The FLX-1610 card is part of the portfolio of Optelian products that was recently MEF-9 certified.
