MAY 19, 2009 -- AboveNet Inc. (search Lightwave for AboveNet) has launched a new metro 40-Gbps service in all 15 of its U.S. markets.

"AboveNet has been at the forefront of high speed transport solutions driven by our fiber-centric delivery model," said Rajiv Datta, AboveNet senior VP and CTO. "We are proud to offer what I believe is the first metro 40-Gbps transport service in the U.S."

AboveNet's Metro Wave services portfolio provides high-bandwidth connectivity over dedicated fiber and equipment and offers operational, security, and performance advantages for customers that have large transport needs. These services, including the new 40-Gbps capability, offer various protection options with the ability to add additional services as needed over a private, scalable technology platform.

"Just as important as the technological step this represents is our ability to offer this 40-Gbps service for less than 2.5 times what a single 10-Gbps service costs, which is the traditional decision point for moving to the next bandwidth level," added Datta. "This offer is designed to help accelerate the adoption of 40-Gbps technology by our high-bandwidth customers.
