XKL applies DQT10 optical transponder to Wi-Fi networks

Aug. 28, 2018
XKL LLC has expanded the potential applications of its DQT10 optical transponder to the support of point-to-multi-point Wi-Fi network topologies. Network installers at educational institutions, municipalities, and enterprises can use the optical transponder to support Wi-Fi network backbones of up to 80 km and support as many as 36 wireless access points per 1RU system, the company asserts.

"Data growth is hitting record levels and networks must be prepared to accommodate," comments Chad Lamb, XKL's chief systems architect. "With our new Wi-Fi enhancement solution, we prepare organizations to be data-driven, and fortify their networks to adapt to today's technologies, while paving the way for future innovations."

XKL says its FlexArc architecture enables the DQT10 to act as a distribution hub for wireless applications, with MIMO access points supporting 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz wireless networks (see "XKL supports distributed DWDM capacity with FlexArc"). The transponder enables topologies beyond traditional 10-km Ethernet connections and delivers 10 Gigabit Ethernet or software-configurable Gigabit Ethernet capacity to each wireless access point. The extended reach makes the approach applicable to metro and regional wireless networks, XKL adds.
