Fiber-optic network services provider Telia Carrier says it has opened a point of presence PoP in Tokyo, Japan. The new site complements existing Asian PoPs in Hong Kong and Singapore, and will provide access to the Telia Carrier global backbone and the company’s high-speed IP transit, Cloud Connect, Ethernet and IPX services.

“Our PoP in Japan will further open up the local market and enhance connectivity across the APAC region as a whole. It will also provide customers with the option of a low latency route towards Europe on our leading global IP backbone," says Wee Kwan Ee, head of sales APAC at Telia Carrier.

“Japan is a country which consumes and creates vast amounts of internet content and with many of its businesses at the cutting edge of technology, there is a compelling need for reliable and scalable connectivity to connect a global networkof customers and partners,” added Staffan Göjeryd, Telia Carrier’s CEO. “Japan is the latest chapter in our organic growth story and follows recent geographical expansion into new markets such as Mexico and Serbia.”

Telia Carrier opened both the Mexico and Serbia PoPs this past May (see “Telia Carrier establishes PoP in city of Queretaro to connect Mexican providers to AS1299 backbone” and “Telia Carrier establishes PoP in Belgrade, Serbia to connect customers to its global backbone”).
