Ciena (NYSE: CIEN) as unveiled its Insights Service, a cloud-based analytics-as-a-service offering. Available by subscription, Insights Service leverages what the company describes as “a team of world-class collaborative data scientists, services, and network infrastructure experts as well as artificial intelligence and machine learning software capabilities” designed to help network operators improve decision-making, asset use, and time to market.
The Insights Service covers three service tiers. The Discover tier provides visibility into network assets, service availability, and network health, this last including areas of risk. The Analyze tier leverages machine learning to evaluate trend information and offer insights into possible network optimization actions, while the Predict tier is designed to enable network operators to detect potential problems and determine how to best optimize the network.
Ciena says the Insights Service can operate in a multivendor environment. The offering builds on the company’s existing consulting services and complements its Blue Planet Analytics (BPA) offering, which is on-premises software that enables closed-loop, multi-domain automation. It would appear that Ciena already has customers using the new service.
“Ciena Insights Service gives us greater visibility and understanding of how our network is performing,” said Dean Veverka, vice president of networks at submarine network services provider Southern Cross (see "Southern Cross adds capacity, enhances packet transport"). “The predictive capability and insights provided by Ciena experts helps us to make more intelligent decisions and proactively fix potential issues before they impact services to keep our customers happy and our network running smoothly.”
