C&W Networks, a Liberty Latin America company, has launched deployments of the Coriant mTera Universal Transport Platform in its pan-Caribbean fiber network backbone, says the systems and SDN technology supplier. The first phase of the multi-step effort covers core sites in Colombia, Curaçao, Guatemala, Honduras, Jamaica, Panama, Puerto Rico, Trinidad, and the United States.

The optical transport platforms will enable protected 100-Gbps services, Ethernet aggregation, and legacy SDH migration. C&W Networks will leverage the Coriant Transcend Chorus Transport Network Management System (TNMS) for management and control of the fiber infrastructure, including service provisioning.

“Adding new 100-Gbps port services, reducing network complexity, and streamlining service delivery are key drivers behind our network-wide optimization initiative,” said Paul Scott, president, C&W Networks. “When it comes to multiservice bandwidth management, the Coriant mTera solution has exceeded expectations and is helping us differentiate and innovate our broadband and IP capacity services, ensuring the continued excellence of both customer service experience and infrastructure across the Caribbean and Latin America region.”

C&W Networks, a wholly owned subsidiary of C&W Communications, offers wholesale telecommunications services throughout the greater Caribbean, Central American, and Andean region. The company offers connectivity via several submarine networks that not only connect this service area, but more than 40 countries. Liberty Global purchased C&W Communications in 2015 (see “Liberty Global agrees to buy Cable & Wireless”); Liberty Latin America spun out of Liberty Global earlier this year (see “Liberty Latin America’s split-off from Liberty Global finalized”).
