Telstra pairs with Equinix to expand Telstra Octagon financial exchange network
Communications services provider Telstra says it will team with Equinix to improve its Telstra Octagon financial services network offering. Customers will now have access to Platform Equinix, providing access not only to financial exchanges around the world but also Equinix’s data center, colocation, and Equinix Fabric interconnection services adjacent to those exchanges.
The Telstra Octagon service targets capital market and fintech customers in North America who need connectivity to eight major financial exchanges globally (see illustration above). The service leverages Telstra’s worldwide fiber network infrastructure to support high-frequency trading with low latency. Customers also can leverage Telstra Octagon for price discovery, risk analysis, smart order routing, flow and matching, trade execution, and settlement activities, according to the company.
With the addition of access to Equinix’s resources Telstra says it can now offer enhanced trading capabilities via expanded connectivity, cloud, and IP delivery options. This includes access to the NASDAQ and CBOE exchanges in Equinix NY.
“Our collaboration with Equinix allows capital markets and fintech companies to benefit from low-latency connectivity, which is critical in high-frequency trading environments where every millisecond can mean the difference between huge gains or losses,” said Nicholas Collins, president, Telstra, Americas. “Once they’re on Telstra Octagon, it’s easy to access additional network delivery services as needed, providing flexibility to expand and transform as situations change.”
“Telstra Octagon integrates with the Equinix global services portfolio – including colocation, interconnection, and digital services – enabling trading connectivity in close proximity to more than 1,250 companies in the Equinix financial ecosystem,” added Jules Johnston, senior vice president, global channels, Equinix. “The ability to combine Telstra’s low-latency network technology with the global interconnect capabilities of Platform Equinix is powerful, and we look forward to Telstra Octagon customers reaping the benefits of our collaborative solutions.”
