Hammerhead picks Ample MAC device for metro Ethernet aggregation

June 14, 2005 Fremont, CA -- Hammerhead Systems has deployed Ample Communications' Harrier MAC device within the Hammerhead HSX 6000 Layer 2.5 aggregation platform. Hammerhead says it picked the device because of its large amount of on-chip packet RAM, which can support up to 20 km of fiber length, a critical factor in Ethernet aggregation applications.

Hammerhead says its aggregation platform enables service providers to accelerate the delivery of new Ethernet and existing legacy services over any infrastructure. The company says the Harrier chip enables Ethernet-based deployments by supporting sufficient amounts of RAM for long-reach metro applications, as well as for short-reach enterprise and data-center applications, in turn reducing footprint, power consumption, and overall costs.

"We are excited to have Hammerhead as a customer, as they are an emerging leader in Layer 2.5 aggregation applications focused on Ethernet," remarks Marek Tlalka, vice president of marketing for Ample Communications. "By working closely with our customers like Hammerhead, we ensure that our feature set meets customer needs in multiple applications."
