Canadian telecom operator Sogetel has tapped Transmode to deliver greater speed and capacity for Sogetel's metro networks in more than 20 Quebec cities, including Montreal and Quebec City, the optical transport systems house says.

The new packet optical transport network deployed by Sogetel is based on Transmode's TM-Series and significantly increases capacity across the region-wide network. The network was preconfigured at Transmode's headquarters in Stockholm, then transported and installed in just two weeks by Transmode's engineers and Sak Data. The installation was achieved without any interruption to ongoing services, Transmode asserts.

The new fiber infrastructure can be migrated to integrate Layer 2 packet optical, 100G or greater, and ROADMs within the same chassis, giving Sogetel a fully scalable and flexible network, according to Transmode. Sogetel was already a Transmode customer (see "Canadian carriers select Transmode iWDM"), and the flexibility of the previous TS-Series network allowed an upgrade path to the new TM-Series-based network.

Sogetel sought the network upgrade to accommodate rapidly growing demand for data center interconnect and business Ethernet access in Quebec.

"The smooth transition meant no interruptions to our customers' business, and now we are able to increase capacity and service flexibility as they require," notes Isis Thiago de Souza, Sogetel's technology and business development vice president.
