ZTE used last week's WDM & Next-Generation Optical Networking Forum Nice, France to unveil the ZXMP M721 CX66 packet and Optical Transport Network (OTN) transport platform.

The packet and OTN platform integrates ODUk, packet, and virtual circuit (VC) cross connect capabilities, addresses the growing need for unified communication networks in the face of growing LTE and over-the-top (OTT) bandwidth demands, according to the company. The system stands 6RU tall and has an 840G switching capacity. It supports transmission of signals from 2 Mbps to 100 Gbps and can operate as an element in metro area core and backbone network applications, ZTE says. It also is designed to support software-defined networking (SDN).

"The ZXMP M721 CX66 is a compact packet OTN product with the highest integrity and capacity in the industry," asserts Wei Xiaoqiang, director of the Bearer Network Planning and System Department at ZTE. "It perfectly satisfies operators' urgent bearing demands, effectively reduces network layer complexity, and ensures the perfect unified bearing of edge layer OTN."
