MRV Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: MRVC) says it has expanded the capabilities of its OptiDriver line with the OD-4-HD. The 1RU system targets the access edge requirement for higher transmission rates, including 200 Gbps.

MRV Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: MRVC) says it has expanded the capabilities of its OptiDriver line with the OD-4-HD. The 1RU system targets the access edge requirement for higher transmission rates, including 200 Gbps.

The optical transport systems vendor sees a need among service providers, data center operators, and enterprises for a compact, high-speed managed optical demarcation unit. The OD-4-HD uses the same standard OptiDriver cards as other chassis in the line. These include 10G and coherent 100G transponders, as well as an upcoming coherent 200G muxponder.

MRV asserts OD-4-HD provides the lowest power and highest density available, with modular pluggable-based 100G options that reduce total cost of ownership (TCO). The systems are compatible with MRV's Pro-Vision service orchestration and software, which provides remote point-and-click service turn up alongside optical monitoring tools.

"Our enterprise and metro customers demand flexible competitively priced solutions that enable them to meet growing bandwidth requirements along with the ability to further scale as their network and bandwidth demands increase," commented Adam Scheer, senior vice president of product management and corporate development for MRV. "Our OD-4-HD solution offers low power consumption and rack space savings in a small, easy to deploy form factor that is ideal for optical customer premises equipment (CPE). The unique attributes of our OD-4-HD enable our customers to realize significant reductions in capex and opex, while maintaining the ability to easily and efficiently scale their networks."
