Optical transport systems vendor Coriant says it will supply systems to Norwegian service provider Broadnet to enable a nationwide fiber-optic network upgrade. The systems will address both metro and core requirements in an integrated manner that will improve resiliency and flexibility while decreasing service provisioning times.

Broadnet's network includes more than 45,000 km of fiber and connects more than 90 cities and towns throughout the country. The company uses the fiber network to serve residential, small-to-medium enterprise, system integrator, carrier, and enterprise customers.

Coriant will supply its 7100 Nano Packet Optical Transport Platform, mTera Universal Transport Platform (UTP), and hiT 7300 Multi-Haul Transport Platform. The systems will be under control of the Coriant Transport Network Management System (TNMS). The service provider expects to the upgrade will enhance delivery of packet-based and optical services, increase network efficiency, and enable it to cost-effectively scale network capacity.

"Network resiliency and service flexibility are increasingly critical to enterprise customers, such as health sector, system integrators, and operators, who rely on always-on availability and diverse connectivity requirements to deliver best-in-class services to their customers," said Anurag Shukla, head of network and technology strategy at Broadnet. "With the end-to-end Coriant solution we can significantly reduce time-to-market for new service delivery. This will allow us to be more responsive to the rapidly changing needs of our customers, while improving network efficiency and reliability with an unprecedented level of automation and control across network domains."
