ZTE Corp. (0763.HK/000063.SZ) has unveiled what it asserts is the first quantum encryption transport capability based on Optical Transport Network (OTN). The technology supports transmission of quantum paths and traditional paths on the same fiber.

The successful launch of the Mozi quantum satellite has raised attention on quantum telecommunication technology, ZTE says, as a means of secure communication. Quantum technology can generate secure and reliable keys by transmitting digital information via a single photon, according to the company. It also supports timely key updates. Overall, quantum supplies greater security than traditional encryption methods, ZTE asserts.

The company says its pairing of quantum encryption and OTN equipment offers shared-fiber, transparent transmission of quantum paths and traditional paths on OTN infrastructure. It also adopts standard quantum key service interfaces to form an open quantum telecommunication architecture. It does so in a manner that does not require operators to change the current network service system, ZTE adds.
