MobiFone deploys packet-optical network with Ciena
Vietnamese mobile operator MobiFone Corp. has begun deployment of a 1,400-km packet-optical network in its home country. The fiber-optic network, built with packet-optical transport systems from Ciena (NYSE: CIEN), is supporting 300 Gbps and runs between Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City.
The new network aid MobiFone in providing high-speed mobile broadband services to businesses and consumers in more than 25 local provinces in Vietnam, Ciena says.
Ciena has supplied its 6500 Packet-Optical Platform complete with coherent transmission capabilities and hybrid packet Optical Transport Network (OTN) switching. The company also has provided MobiFone with intelligent control plane technology to improve system reliability as well as the systems house's network management system.

Ciena BizConnect channel partner ELCOM has provided deployment services for the network build.
