Hanoi Telecom adds Infinera DTN-X to metro, core fiber backbone networks

Infinera says it has supplied its elements of its DTN-X family of packet-optical transport systems to wireless operator Hanoi Telecom Corp. (HTC). HTC will pair the DTN-X systems with its already fielded Infinera TM-Series metro network gear to connect Ho Chi Minh City and Vung Tau.

The systems house won the contract through local partner Nissho Electronics.

HTC offers carrier and wholesale services, focusing primarily on providing wireless, broadband, and VoIP services. The company provides retail mobile services under the Vietnam Mobile brand to more than 13 million subscribers.

Integrating the metro and core backbone networks under the Infinera umbrella gives HTC a unified network under control of a common management system. The result is simplified operations and accelerated service innovation, Infinera asserts.

HTC selected Infinera's DTN-X XTC Series, which offers the Instant Bandwidth feature to provision 500-Gbps superchannels in 100-Gbps increments. The DTN-X XTC Series integrates WDM with up to 12 Tbps of Optical Transport Network (OTN) capacity as well as packet switching for sub-wavelength service management.

"We intend to advance the deployment of high-bandwidth solutions to our customers in the Vietnam market by using the DTN-X XTC Series based on the innovative PIC [photonic integrated circuit] technology," said Madam Trinh Minh Chau, chairwoman and CEO of Hanoi Telecom. "Infinera's Instant Bandwidth allows us to differentiate our services through pre-deployed capacity which can be delivered on-demand via software-defined activation. In addition, Infinera's platforms have demonstrated the type of reliability and quality we are looking for in our network."

This is the second pairing of DTN-X and TM-Series platforms in the same network Infinera has announced recently (see "Telia Carrier taps Infinera for new West Coast route, US metro needs"). Infinera gain the TM-Series portfolio via its acquistion of Transmode.
