Navega.com selects Tellabs to expand its service portfolio
JUNE 24, 2008 -- Central American carriers' carrier Navega.com is upgrading to an IP/MPLS network powered by the Tellabs (search for Tellabs) 8600 managed edge system.
Navega clients include corporate users and other telcos. It transports video, voice, and data using a terrestrial fiber backbone covering all Central America, from Guatemala to Panama. Navega is part of TIGO operations in Central America and DECA II, a partnership of Iberdrola of Spain, TECO (Tampa Energy), and EDP (Electricidad de Portugal).
According to Tellabs, the upgrade will benefit Navega.com by enabling the carrier to boost network capacity and accommodate new customers; reduce capital and operating costs; scale the network affordably; support 2G, 3G, and 4G mobile transport; deliver Ethernet and IP VPN (virtual private network) services; and aggregate broadband services.
"With Tellabs' solution, Navega.com can converge all of its services on a single platform," said Roberto Rodriguez, vice president of marketing and sales for Navega.com. "This gives us ability to scale the network when and where our customers need it, as we expand our presence in Central America."
Navega.com has already deployed other Tellabs equipment, including the Tellabs 6300 managed transport system for Carrier Ethernet services and transport over SDH networks. It also runs the Tellabs 8100 managed access system to provide international interconnection services to regional customers. Navega.com uses the Tellabs 8000 network management system to activate and manage services provided by the three Tellabs platforms.
