Managed hosting provider i3D.net deploys MRV's OptiDriver

Optical transport systems vendor MRV Communications Inc. (NASDAQ: MRVC) says has supplied its OptiDriver optical packet transport platform to i3D.net, a managed hosting provider. I3D.net will use the packet-optical transport systems to increase its capacity into Amsterdam up to 400 Gbps.

Optical transport systems vendor MRV Communications Inc. (NASDAQ: MRVC) says has supplied its OptiDriver optical packet transport platform to i3D.net, a managed hosting provider. I3D.net will use the packet-optical transport system to increase its capacity into Amsterdam up to 400 Gbps.

This is MRV’s second recent customer announcement focused on Amsterdam (see "Serverius links Dutch data centers via MRV OptiDriver").

i3D.net operates a fiber-optic network that links 8,000 servers in 16 data centers across six continents. The company offers 24/7 support for game and corporate server hosting, as well as specialty services such as big data, Hadoop, global load balancing, and MPLS and IP transit. The i3D.net network includes multiple Tier 1 carriers and large Internet exchanges across the globe, a combination that the service provider says provides a mix that guarantees redundancy, maximum performance, and low latency.

The service provider sought new optical transport capability that would support product expansion into such areas as cloud services, colocation, infrastructure-as-a-service. MRV says its OptiDriver will provide i3D.net with flexible scalability and intelligence that will simplify network management and provisioning while supporting the expansion plans.

"We are the expert in scaling capacity on a global scale, and MRV helps us support continued growth in network traffic while streamlining service delivery and management," agreed Stijn Koster, CEO for i3D.net. "Throughout the installation, MRV worked closely with us to plan and build our network to create a foundation that will facilitate future growth. The OptiDriver platform allows us to rapidly increase capacity in 10G increments for colocation racks, dedicated servers, cloud services and web hosting. This will allow us to effortlessly increase bandwidth as we need it, making scalability simple and manageable."
