OCTOBER 30, 2006 -- Navega, one of the largest telecommunications service providers in Central America, has selected Tellabs (search for Tellabs) to expand the capacity of its transport networks.

The Tellabs 6300 Managed Transport and Tellabs 8100 Managed Access systems will enable Navega to meet the voice, video, and data demands of its growing customer base in Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama.

"The Tellabs solution enables us to interlace our local, regional, and international dedicated links thru the NAP of the Americas, giving our customers the opportunity to participate in the globalization process," explains Willy Paiz, CEO of Navega. "Compared with other vendors' products, Tellabs' offering provides predictable reliability and more flexibility."

The Tellabs 6300 and Tellabs 8100 systems enable Navega to consolidate its transport networks and use a single platform for operations and provisioning while rolling out carrier-class Ethernet services, say Tellabs representatives. Additionally, Navega will deploy the Tellabs 8100 Managed Access System for international interconnection services to regional corporations.

"By expanding the capacity of its networks with the Tellabs products, Navega will realize operational savings while providing quality of service and reliability to its customers," contends Tarcisio Ribeiro, vice president, Latin America and Caribbean for Tellabs. "Navega's deployment shows that the flexible and efficient solution offered by Tellabs meets the demands for next-generation services."

According to Tellabs, its 6300 managed transport system is a next-generation SDH solution that delivers profitable data and voice services. It provides MEF-certified carrier Ethernet services and transport with high-bandwidth granularity and quality of service over SDH networks, enabling operators to deliver multiple services from a high-density platform with a more efficient use of bandwidth and greater scalability, says the company.

The Tellabs 8100 system provides end-to-end integrated network management across a variety of systems and technologies. It offers automated management for the entire service life-cycle, from network planning and building to service provisioning, testing, and monitoring for service-level agreement compliance.
