Taiwan Post taps Nortel's Metro Ethernet equipment for business continuit
NOVEMBER 13, 2007 -- Taiwan Post, the largest postal, banking, and insurance services provider in Taiwan, has selected Nortel's (search for Nortel) Metro Ethernet equipment to help it avert catastrophic failure to business operations in the event of a disaster.
Taiwan Post is ensuring business continuity with Metro Ethernet technology by enabling real-time information backup, access, and recovery. In addition to business continuity, Taiwan Post says it is increasing the effectiveness of its operations by converging multiple existing networks onto a simple, scalable, and secure metro infrastructure. The new network, based on Nortel's Optical Metro 5200 DWDM multiservice platform, will enable an efficient and effective information management process to ensure the security of Taiwan Post's valuable information assets, say Nortel representatives.
Nortel's Taiwan channel partner Hauman Technologies is working to deploy the newly converged network, which links Taiwan Post's headquarters with an off-site facility in another part of Taiwan.
"As Taiwan Post's business operations grow, a key priority for Nortel is to provide them with a network that is simple, dependable, and scalable," explains Y.K. Tsai, regional leader, Taiwan, Nortel. "We are delivering a secure and reliable optical networking solution that will enable them to transparently back up business-critical data from any application over a single converged network. This will help ensure that their data is protected," adds Tsai. "Taiwan Post chose Nortel for this project because of our leading position in optical networking and because we understand their business continuity needs for the present and into the future."
Use of industry-standard Ethernet technology, even over long distances, ensures seamless interoperability between remote sites, say Nortel representatives. The Nortel Metro Ethernet Networking portfolio helps companies consolidate layers of networking functionality, simplifies any-to-any connectivity, and supports a rich set of business connectivity services, claim company representatives. This positions customers to reap the benefits of Hyperconnectivity, a new era of networking in which everything that can be connected to the network is connected, they say. Nortel says that through the use of its Metro Ethernet equipment, service providers and enterprises can now confidently use Ethernet as a means for delivering the most critical high-bandwidth services, such as business connectivity services, IPTV, and mobile video.
According to the company, the Nortel Optical Metro 5200 is a highly optimized DWDM platform that enables extremely high-speed data transfers over fiber-optic networks. It also provides intuitive network modeling and management tools that simplify deployment and operation of next-generation DWDM metropolitan networks.
