April 26, 2005 Bristol, England -- Phyworks, a producer of semiconductor integrated circuits for data and telecom networking systems and modules, has expanded its line of transimpedance amplifiers (TIAs). The company's PHY1092, PHY1093, and PHY1094 TIAs are designed for 1-Gbit to 4-Gbit fiber applications. The company says the devices offer module manufacturers advantages of integration and cost-reduction.

"Being able to offer the entire chipset enables us to improve overall system performance and deliver to our customers significant cost benefits, while at the same time offering the added convenience of working with just one expert supplier," explains Stephen King, CEO of Phyworks. "ROSA manufacturers using our TIAs will be able to take advantage of our experience and systems expertise in the optical market."

According to the company, the PHY1092 is designed for Gigabit Ethernet and FTTX optical network unit (ONU) applications up to 1.25-Gbit/sec, with a typical sensitivity of -29 dBm at 1310 nm. The PHY1093, designed to support applications up to 3-Gbit/sec, is suitable for SONET multi-rate modules up to OC48, and features an input sensitivity of -25 dBm at 2.488-Gbit/sec, with an input overload of 3 mApp. Designed for applications from 1-Gbit/sec to 4.25-Gbit/sec, the PHY1094 is suitable for multi-rate SFP modules for 1X, 2X, and 4X Fiber Channel applications. This TIA has a bandwidth of 3.2 GHz and a typical sensitivity of -21 dBm at 850 nm.

The company says each TIA combines a high-sensitivity input stage with an output AGC amplifier to provide a wide useable dynamic range, for DWDM or electronic dispersion compensation applications. The devices are designed to interface with the company's integrated PHY1070 and PHY1075 driver/receiver products, which support applications with speeds ranging from 155-Mbit/sec to 4-Gbit/sec.

Pricing starts at $0.50 for the PHY1092, $0.60 for the PHY1093, and $0.70 for the PHY1094. Samples are available, with volume production scheduled for this month.
