5 July 2002 -- Telia International Carrier is to deliver IP-transit services to both NORDUnet (in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden) and Belnet (in Belgium).

5 July 2002 -- Telia subsidiary Telia International Carrier is to deliver global IP-transit to NORDUnet - the Nordic Internet highway to research and education networks in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden - via its 40,000km pan-European/US Viking Network for Internet Access.

Telia IC has provided NORDUnet with a Nordic backbone over the last three years, during which it has been upgraded to a data rate of 2.5Gbit/s. Telia IC also supplies capacity to the project 6NET which NORDUnet is currently developing.

* On 26 June Telia IC is to provide 622Mbit/s of IP transit to Belnet - Belgium's national research network for education, research and public services - after one of its main suppliers defaulted by filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

Belnet has the largest IP backbone in Belgium and offers Internet access to universities, educational and research institutes, ministries and regional entities.

"This is the third research network that has chosen Telia IC," says Telia IC CEO Erik Heilborn. "We are already a preferred supplier of GEANT and Nordunet."
