Net Optics introduces new copper-to-fiber tap

Sept. 19, 2001
Sept. 19, 2001--Net Optics has introduced a GigaBit TX to SX Tap enabling two devices communicating via GigaBit TX copper cables to be monitored by a fiber SX analyzer.

Net Optics has introduced a GigaBit TX to SX Tap enabling two devices communicating via GigaBit TX copper cables to be monitored by a fiber SX analyzer. Installing the Tap enables migration to copper GigaBit Ethernet while retaining compatibility with the monitoring and intrusion detection technologies available for fiber networks.

This GigaBit converter tap is the latest addition to Net Optics' comprehensive suite of taps for network monitoring and intrusion detection. The GigaBit TX to SX Tap features Clock and Data Recovery (CDR) for superior performance, ensuring that the overall jitter budget is not exceeded when deploying the Tap. This Tap also incorporates echo-cancellation circuitry for reduced "near-end cross-talk" and "far-end cross-talk" interference.

Before the introduction of Net Optics' latest Tap, only managers of fiber GigaBit networks could utilize the tap technology for monitoring and troubleshooting the network backbone. The Net Optics GigaBit TX to SX design supports the use of this technology for copper GigaBit networks.

As with all Net Optics Taps, the GigaBit TX to SX Tap works with analyzer and test equipment without disturbing network integrity, so monitoring can occur during business hours. Additional features include half or full duplex transmission support at 1000 Mbps for up to 220 meters of transmission distance, and two load-sharing power supplies. If either power supply fails, the remaining power supply immediately assumes the additional load. As with all products in Net Optics' network security and reliability family, the GigaBit TX to SX Tap meets all IEEE 802.3 standards, and is equipped with universal power supplies to support global usage.
