The Broadband Forum took another step towards extending its influence into the optical communications arena at its annual meeting in Boston with the ratification of a technical report on the use of EPON for access and aggregation. The report, “TR-200: Using EPON in the Context of TR-101,” is designed to aid carriers using Broadband Forum DSL architectures and standards to deploy Gigabit and 10-Gigabit EPON equipment within Broadband Forum-specified architectures, either independently or alongside other access technologies.
The TR-200 EPON report builds on TR-101, “Migration to Ethernet-based DSL Aggregation,” which the Broadband Forum approved in April 2006.
The Broadband Forum, originally the DSL Forum, has expanded its original charter to include optical communications (see “Broadband Forum: We’re more than DSL”).
