OE Solutions demonstrates 10GbE single-wavelength bi-directional XFP

OE Solutions Co., Ltd. says it has demonstrated successful operation of its 10-Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) Single Wavelength Bi-Directional (SWBiDI) XFP to support reaches up to 10 km.

OE Solutions Co., Ltd. says it has demonstrated successful operation of its 10-Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) Single Wavelength Bi-Directional (SWBiDI) XFP to support reaches up to 10 km.

The 10GbE SWBiDi XFP operates at 1270-nm, 1290-nm, 1310-nm, and 1330-nm wavelengths with -3 dBm output power and sensitivity of -10 dBm. OE Solutions says it is already working to improve the output power and sensitivity to extend the XFP’s supported reach to 40-km and greater.

According to Dr. JoonSang Yu, director of product management at OE Solutions, “Customers now fully realize the cost benefits of moving from a dual fiber to a single fiber solution, especially as fiber exhaust becomes an issue and the cost of leasing fiber increases. However, the operational headache and cost of making sure the correct transceiver pairs are deployed in the field has been a deterrent for some customers. We are taking away this hindrance for the customer and, in turn, reducing the operational cost, by offering our Single Wavelength BiDi solution. Now customers can deploy one wavelength over a single fiber and not have to worry about making sure the correct wavelength pair has been installed in the field.”

OE Solutions says that general samples will be available June 1, 2011.
