SEPTEMBER 9, 2009 -- The tunable transponder product family includes both zero-chirp and negative-chirp modulation options.

SEPTEMBER 9, 2009 -- Source Photonics Inc., a provider of optical communication products used in telecommunication systems and data communication networks, has announced the TPT series small-form-factor (SFF) 300-pin tunable transponder product family.

The tunable transponder product family includes both zero-chirp and negative-chirp modulation options. Both are fully compliant with 300-pin multisource agreement (MSA) as well as related SONET/SDH, Ethernet, and Fibre Channel standards. The product family has two types of packages: the regular SFF size (2x3x0.53 in.) and ultrathin size (2x3x0.45 in.). The transponder includes built-in channel ID, built-in SBS suppression, electrical dispersion compensation, and flexible Tx/Rx rate selection functions. It provides a wide tuning range capability up to 100 channels with 50-GHz channel spacing. The transponder has typical power consumption of 6 W.

"With the boom of Internet video applications as well as emerging 3G wireless network deployments, bandwidth requirements are still growing. However, customers now want to have all features combined into one module to reduce the inventory cost and maximize their investment," says Sheng Zhang, executive director of product development at Source Photonics. "Our cost-effective TPT series SFF 300-pin tunable transponder product family provides this comprehensive solution to our customers."

The transponder product family complements Source Photonics' existing 10-Gbps product portfolio that includes SFP+ and XFP transceivers and fixed wavelength 300-pin transponders. The tunable transponder lineup has passed qualification and Telcordia reliability test requirements and is currently shipping to customers.

The TPT product family will be on display at CIOE Sept. 6-9, 2009, in Shenzhen, China at Source Photonics Booth #469.
