JUNE 8, 2009 -- The M21156 crosspoint switch supports data rates from 1 to 3.2 Gbps.

JUNE 8, 2009 -- Mindspeed Technologies Inc. (search Lightwave for Mindspeed), a supplier of semiconductor technologies for network infrastructure, has announced that Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. (search Lightwave for Huawei), a provider of next-generation telecommunications network products, has selected Mindspeed's M21156 retiming crosspoint switch for use within its transport product line.

"Huawei has achieved superior performance in our transport platforms based on Mindspeed's crosspoint technology," says Christian Chua, president of transport product line at Huawei.

"Mindspeed's M21156 retiming crosspoint switch and Huawei's networking systems offer the industry unprecedented levels of performance, integration, and cost effectiveness," says Kurt Busch, Mindspeed's senior vice president and general manager, high-performance analog. "We are very proud to be supporting a forward-looking company such as Huawei and to have been included in several of its designs."

The M21156 low-power, high-speed, 144x144 retiming crosspoint switch minimizes jitter using a combination of advanced equalization and retiming circuits enabling the development of multigigabit channels across demanding backplanes. The device supports data rates from 1 to 3.2 Gbps and is currently in full production.

Crosspoint switches provide the key signal integrity and interconnect technology that solves issues posed by high-speed networking. Demand for crosspoint switches is growing due to the increasing need for high-bandwidth applications in the enterprise, metro, and core. According to WinterGreen Research Inc., the market for crosspoint switches is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 27% through 2015.
