Centellax offers small 40G electro-absorption modulator driver amplifier

December 15, 2009 -- Centellax describes the model no. OA4SMM5 as a small, high-performance broadband 40-Gbps electro-absorption (EA) optical modulator driver amplifier with low jitter, 3.3-V amplitude, and excellent gain and group delay flatness to 45 GHz.

December 15, 2009 -- Centellax Inc.has announced the release of its 40G 3.3-V EA Modulator Driver Amplifier.

Centellax describes the model no. OA4SMM5 as a small, high-performance broadband 40-Gbps electro-absorption (EA) optical modulator driver amplifier with low jitter, 3.3-V amplitude, and excellent gain and group delay flatness to 45 GHz. The driver is GRE-357 Telcordia qualified and designed for electro-optical test equipment and SONET OC-768/STM-256 optical modulator component driver applications.

Features Centellax highlights include:

  • 3.3-Vp-p output swing
  • 0.5 ps added RMS jitter
  • 6 ps rise/fall time
  • 20-dB gain to 45 GHz
  • 900-mW power dissipation
  • Size: 0.77x1.19x0.26 inch

The OA4SMM5 is offered in a small, modularized package and is intended for transponder integration. The OA4SMM5 has gain and power levels that are ideally suited for driving 40G electro-absorption modulators, Centellax asserts. The driver has low power dissipation, ample drive signal, low added jitter, fast rise/fall times, and is easy to use with simple bias voltages, the company adds.

The OA4SMM5 can be biased from a standard 5-V supply.
