MARCH 23, 2010 -- VPIsystems has announced Version 8.5 of its Photonic Design Automation suite VPItransmissionMaker and VPIcomponentMaker. Version 8.5 provides new modeling features, improved usability, and design process and data analysis enhancements.

Version 8.5 offers capabilities for BER estimation of systems with DmPSK-type modulation formats, statistically balanced generation of m-ary random symbol streams, and modeling for WDM-PONs, OFDM systems, and dynamic optical networks.

Among the usability features of Version 8.5 are improved Search and Quick Find functionalities, enhanced control of multiple (possibly remote) simulation servers, and improved data visualization and analysis features of VPIphotonicsAnalyzer.

VPIcomponentMaker Active Photonics provides new modeling supporting the design of Photonic Integrated Circuits, namely new models for passive waveguide and EAM sections.

Paul Morton, CEO and founder of Morton Photonics, says: “Our team has been using VPIcomponentMaker Active Photonics since 2008 on multiple [Department of Defense] research and development programs. It has served us well in the simulation of novel active photonic devices, and has been used in the early design and optimization of a number of devices.”

Version 8.5 will be available for public release in April 2010. The latest edition is on display at OFC/NFOEC 2010 booth #927.
