JUNE 9, 2010 -- TPACK, a provider of silicon ICs that deliver core data transport and switching functions to telecom and networking equipment suppliers, announced the TPX4000 series of Packet Transport switches. The new releases are ready for demonstration and evaluation of MPLS-TP on TPACK's reference system, Springbank.

With its focus on Carrier Ethernet and MPLS-TP support, the TPX4000 series is designed to address the emerging need for packet intelligence in Transport Networks. It includes a number of features not typically included in Ethernet switches or NPUs, such as full line speed and support of the latest OAM standards. TPX4000 addresses 40 Gbps applications. Its C2C expansion interface allows expansion to 80 Gbps capacity. A 100 Gbps switch solution is in development.

The TPX4000 series is based upon TPACK's SOFTSILICON concept, which combines the advantages of standard ASSP chips with the flexibility of FPGA chips. This allows new functionality to be added during development and offer upgradeability to new international standards, and is at the same time a cost competitive alternative to the standard ASSP or NPU solutions
