OCTOBER 26, 2010 -- Semiconductor supplier Mindspeed Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: MSPD) and Open Services Gateway Initiative (OSGi) pioneer ProSyst Software GmbH have collaborated to co-market optimized OSGi SoCs to service providers and product manufacturers worldwide. ProSyst now commercially supports Mindspeed’s Comcerto 1000 Series broadband gateway packet processor; Mindspeed will use ProSyst’s mBS Smart Home software its OSGi framework of choice.

Mindspeed and ProSyst have worked together to optimize system performance using OSGi on Mindspeed’s unique dual-core asymmetric processing platform. Mindspeed’s dual-core architecture enables each processor to run independently of the other. The Comcerto 1000 SoC’s Media Stream Processor (MSP) thus remains dedicated to core gateway functionalities, such as IPTV routing and voice processing, while the SoC’s Application and Control Processor (ACP) independently runs OSGi-based applications, thus creating a logical and physical partitioning.

Mindspeed’s Comcerto® 1000 processor and ProSyst’s OSGi / ProSyst mBS Smart Home software provide a multi-application execution environment that can run multiple software components simultaneously and deliver a robust and very resource-efficient, multi-purpose facility, the companies add.
