MAY 19, 2010 -- Mintera Corp. has announced what it asserts is the industry’s first shipment of a small form factor 40-Gbps DWDM DPSK transceiver module. Mintera’s MI 7000XM Adaptive-DPSK product delivers 40G optical performance in a standard 3.5x4.5-inch, 300-pin package.
According to Niall Robinson, Mintera's vice president of product marketing, these are sample shipments but "virtually production quality." He expects to ship production modules this summer, once the devices have completed GR-468 qualification.
Three customers will have received shipments by the end of this month, Robinson expects; three more will receive them in June and "all our customers by July," Robinson wrote in response to Lightwave questions.
“This shipment signals the next phase in 40 Gbps evolution with the first delivery of a new generation of 40-Gbps DWDM modules,” says Terry Unter, Mintera president and CEO. “The MI 7000XM is half the size and half the power dissipation of the previous generation of DWDM 40-Gbps 300-pin modules.”
The patent-pending Adaptive-DPSK technology incorporated in Mintera’s MI 7000XM DWDM module enables 40-Gbps transport on 50-GHz channel-spaced systems and transmission over agile ROADM networks without compromising reach in ultra-long-haul networks. Its backward compatibility enables Mintera’s customers to bring the latest technology to the market rapidly without incurring significant development costs, the company concludes.
