AFL says it has added the FOCIS WiFi2 to its inspection and cleaning product line. The FOCUS WiFi2 fiber-optic connector inspection system uses an Android or iOS wireless connection for live image video streaming, auto-focus, and more. It also can be connected into the company's aeRos Workflow Management Solution.
AFL describes the handheld FOCIS WiFi2 probe as ergonomic and lightweight, with a single multi-purpose button, a single multi-color functional status LED, and a battery charging port for portability throughout the entire day. The status LED enables fast operator assessment of fiber end-face cleanliness by either passing or failing standard rules, along with "fiber not found" error notification, thereby improving workflow output.
"According to industry studies, contaminated fiber end faces typically account for 85% of optical network failures," said Maury Wood, product line manager for AFL's Test and Inspection division. "With the advent of broadband and enterprise data center links at 100 Gbps and higher, the universal adherence to best practice fiber cleaning and inspection methods is an operational imperative."
The FOCUS WiFi2 makes use of AFL's line of inspection adapter tips for bulkhead sleeves and connectors alike, including all 2.5-mm (SC, FC, ST) and 1.25-mm (LC) ferrules, and multi-fiber connectors and bulkhead sleeves (MPO/MTP/MPO16) as well. AFL also offers an adapter tip for high-density LC PC/UPC optical distribution frames.
Available for both Android and iOS, the FOCIS WiFi2 app is free, and supports live image video streaming, auto-focus, IEC / IPC standard and user-customized pass/fail auto-analysis, pinch-to-zoom on end-face images, report generation, multi-language GUI support, and day/time stamped job-saving.
