PacketLight Networks upgrades PL-2000DC to 2.4 Tbps in 1RU

March 20, 2018
Optical transport equipment developer PacketLight Networks says it has upgraded its PL-2000DC transponder to offer 2.4 Tbps in a 1RU device using dual drawers of 1.2 Tbps each. The platform supports 600G per wavelength for data center interconnect  (DCI) and related applications.

Providing carriers and enterprises 400G and 200G over a single wavelength for metro and long-haul networks, the PL-2000DC reduces cost and footprint for transporting up to 24 x 100G LAN and OTU4. According to PacketLight, it features innovativemodularity that supports 600G transmission in 1.2-Tbps pluggable drawers for pay-as-you-grow architectures. The PL-2000DC's flexibility and capacity per drawer also reduces capex and opex, says PacketLight.

The new 1.2-Tbps drawer both enhances capacity per distance anddelivers embedded Layer 1 optical encryption for point-to-point security across the fiber. With optical interfaces and services that are interoperable with all third-party switches and routers, PacketLight says its PL-2000DC enables enterprises to grow their infrastructure at their own pace in a vendor-agnostic environment.

PacketLight Networks unveiled the PL-2000DC platform in September of 2017 (see "PacketLight Networks introduces PL-2000DC for 1.6 Tbps in 1RU"). The upgraded PL-2000DC will be commercially available in the fourth quarter of 2018.
